***You can only recover your Stash from a backup file. If you are re-installing your Stash you must create a Stash backup file BEFORE you reinstall Stash.***

How to Recover/Re-install Your Stash

  1. If you are trying to recover your Stash, use your most recent backup file you saved. If you are installing Stash on a new phone and still have access to your old phone, make sure you create an up-to-date backup file to use to Restore to your new phone.
    1. Navigate to the Menu in your Stash app. Click on Backup.
    2. Create a password for your backup. Make sure to keep this password in a safe place. (If you are using a Stash card the “Scan” popup will display. Press and hold the button on your Stash card and hold it to the back of your phone near the top edge for iPhone or center for Android phone until the process is complete. This may take up to 20 seconds depending on how many accounts you have.)
    3. Choose a secure location to save your backup file. We recommend saving it on a USB drive for offline security, but it will need to be off your phone for the new phone to access it. Your backup file name will use today’s date  (YYYY-MM-DD.stash) so you can find your most recent backup.
  2. Once you have a backup file your new phone can access, you can install Stash on your new phone (or reset your old phone and re-install).
    1. Open the App Store or Play Store
    2. Install Stash Password Manager and open the app.
    3. On an iPhone, tap “Already an existing user?" to confirm subscription. On an Android phone, a "Welcome Back" pop will confirm a subscription was detected.
    4. Navigate to the Menu in your Stash app. Click on Restore. (If you are using a Stash Card, you will need to set it up before your perform your Restore).
    5. Choose your backup file and type in your backup file encryption password. (If you are using a Stash card the “Scan” popup will display. Press and hold the button on your Stash card and hold it to the back of your phone near the top edge for iPhone or center for Android phone until the process is complete. This may take up to 20 seconds depending on how many accounts you have.)
    6. Your passwords should all be restored to your Stash App and you can continue using the app as before.
