Stash App Instructions

Product Requirements

For use on iPhone, you will need an iPhone 8 or newer running iOS 13 or above.

For use on Android, you will need a phone running Marshmallow or above.

Setup the Stash app on your phone 

  1. Download the Stash app on your iPhone by clicking here or on your Android phone by clicking here, or by searching "Stash Password Manager: Secure" in the App Store or Play Store.
  2. Open the app on your phone.
  3. Walk through the intro screens and start your free trial.
  4. Enter your contact information so we can send you important product information.
  5. Walk through the quick start guide to learn how to get started with the app functions and you are ready to Stash your passwords!

Creating/adding accounts

  1. On the list of Accounts page.
  2. Tap the “+” icon to open the Add Account page.
  3. Enter the company name. This is the name shown in the list of Accounts page.
  4. Enter your username.
  5. Edit your display name if needed.
  6. Enter your existing password or if you need to generate a password, click the password generator icon next to the “Password” field.
  7. Tap “Save" or "Check-mark" in the top right corner of the screen when finished. (If you are using a Stash card the “Scan” popup will display. Press and hold the button on your Stash card and hold it to the back of your phone near the top edge for iPhone or center for Android phone until you receive a success notification in the Stash app.)
  8. Your login credentials are now securely stored in your phone (or your Stash card.)

Viewing/editing your usernames and passwords

  1. On the list of Accounts page.
  2. Tap the account for which you would like to view your login credentials and the data will be decrypted and displayed for you. (If you are using a Stash card the “Scan” popup will display. Press and hold the button on your Stash card and hold it to the back of your phone near the top edge for iPhone or center for Android phone until you receive a success notification in the Stash app.)
  3. Once you see your login credentials appear in the app, you can tap the "Copy" icon to the right of the fields to copy the one you need. Go to the website or the app that you are wanting to log into and paste them into the appropriate fields.
  4. If you would like to edit your account information, tap the "Edit" button in the top left corner. You can update your username and password, or delete the account from your Stash. When you are finished with your changes, tap the "Update" button.
  5. When you are done viewing your credentials, tap the "Close" button in the top right corner of the window.

Viewing/editing Company information

  1. On the list of Accounts page.
  2. Long-tap the Company name of the account for which you would like to view.
  3. Under the "Info" tab, you can view and edit the Company name that appears in the Account list and the company website, and you can view a list of all the accounts associated with the Company.
  4. Under the "Sources" tab, you can view and edit all the website addresses and app ID's associated with the Company when using Stash+. You can edit the number of Tab keystrokes used by Stash+ to sign you in to that source location on your computer, or delete the source all together.
  5. When you are finished making your changes, tap the "Update" button.
  6. If you want to delete the Company and all the associated accounts, tap the "Delete" button. 

How to backup your Stash

  1. On the list of Accounts page.
  2. Click the "Menu" icon (located in the top left corner) and select “Backup”.
  3. You will be prompted to create a password for the backup file. Enter your desired password. (You will be asked to enter this password whenever you restore to this backup.)
  4. If you are using a Stash card the “Scan” popup will display. Press and hold the button on your Stash card and hold it to the back of your phone near the top edge for iPhone or center for Android phone until the process is complete. This can take up to 20 seconds to complete depending on how many accounts you have.
  5. Choose the desired location to store your encrypted backup file and click save.

Note: We recommend that you keep your .stash file in a safe and secure location, preferably off of your phone in case you lose or damage your phone.

Restoring your Stash

  1. On the list of Accounts page.
  2. Click the "Menu" icon (located in the top left corner) and select “Restore”.
  3. Find and select your backup file.
  4. Enter your password for your backup file.
  5. If you are using a Stash card the “Scan” popup will display. Press and hold the button on your Stash card and hold it to the back of your phone near the top edge for iPhone or center for Android phone until the process is complete. This can take up to 20 seconds to complete depending on how many accounts you have.

Setup your Stash card with the Stash app

  1. On the list of Accounts page.
  2. Click the "Menu" icon (located in the top left corner) and select “Setup your Stash Card”.
  3. The “Scan” popup will display. Press and hold the button on your Stash card and hold it to the back of your phone near the top edge for iPhone or center for Android phone until the process is complete. This can take up to 20 seconds to complete depending on how many accounts you have to transfer to your card. (Note: You don’t need to push the button very hard as you should feel a small click)
  4. From this point on, any request to view, add, or update an account in your Stash app will require you to scan your Stash card in order to access the information.
